Critical appraisal knowledge and skills are tested in the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination (ISFE) for dental professionals. The critical analysis section consists of a written examination lasting 2 hours. Candidates are given reference material consisting of extracts from published research and other scientific publications, and sets of questions to which written answers are required. Superego Cafe today ran a Critical Appraisal Bespoke Course for dental professionals. The venue was Guy’s Hospital in London, one of the most famous teaching hospitals in the world. Founded in 1721, the hospital is part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and has an excellent reputation for healthcare. The Dental Institute is the largest dental teaching hospital in Europe and is a world leader in many areas of dental research. In preparation for the event, the delegates were given access to the Critical Appraisal Online Course. During the event today the delegates were guided through the core knowledge and skills of critical appraisal with methodological strengths and weaknesses illustrated with a selection of dental papers. Bespoke courses have a number of advantages for delegates. As well as being cheaper than attending the Critical Appraisal One Day Course or Two Day Workshop, delegates can choose the clinical papers to be appraised.
