Critical appraisal courses for psychiatrists
- Friday 23 March 2012
- Bespoke course | Psychiatry
Superego Cafe ran a bespoke critical appraisal course today for a group of psychiatrists in South Yorkshire. Bespoke courses are easy to organise and are a cost-effective way of training large numbers of people. We provide advertising flyers, CPD certificates and tailor the course material to the needs of the audience. Today’s event was attended by Consultant Psychiatrists, trainee psychiatrists and GP trainees. We assumed no prior knowledge and taught critical appraisal from first principles. Practical advice was given on how to improve journal club presentations and the topics covered included those examined in the MRCPsych exams. Interactive digital handsets were used to test the delegates throughout the day. Delegates are given access to the Critical Appraisal Online Course to help them consolidate their new knowledge and skills. If you want to organise a similar course for your department, get in touch!
Critical appraisal for MRCPsych Paper 3
- Monday 31 January 2011
- Bespoke course | Psychiatry | United Kingdom
Complicated work rotas make it difficult for doctors in a study group to get time off together during the working week. As a result, we are often asked to run bespoke events during weekends. Yesterday we ran a bespoke training course for a group of psychiatrists preparing for the MRCPsych Paper 3 exam in March 2011. The exam of the Royal College of Psychiatrists includes questions on evidence-based medicine as well as clinical psychiatry. The psychiatrists had all studied the Critical Appraisal Online Course over the last two months and the teaching focused on consolidating their new knowledge and skills using real clinical papers. It was great to see how confident everyone was by the end of the day. With critical appraisal making up 40% of the questions in the MRCPsych Paper 3, we fully expect these psychiatrists to pass the exam with flying colours. Good luck everyone!
