Critical appraisal training for guideline writers

29th Oct 2012 | Bespoke Course

We ran a bespoke critical appraisal course today for a group of people involved with writing healthcare guidelines.

The National Prescribing Service in Australia provides practical tools and information about medicines, health conditions and medical tests, helping individuals make better decisions about their health and medicines and keep health professionals up to date with the latest evidenced-based information.

One of the most important steps involved in writing any guideline is to appraise the research evidence to determine which findings should influence the recommendations. This involves understanding the strengths and weaknesses in research methods and how to calculate meaningful statistics from the results.

The course today helped everyone to update their knowledge and skills and to have questions about the process of critical appraisal answered!
