Critical appraisal for the ISFE

Wednesday 21 March 2012    Bespoke course | Dentistry

Critical appraisal for the ISFE

Critical appraisal knowledge and skills are tested in the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination (ISFE) for dental professionals. The critical analysis section consists of a written examination lasting 2 hours. Candidates are given reference material consisting of extracts from published research and other scientific publications, and sets of questions to which written answers are required. Many dental professionals attend our critical appraisal courses and workshops but we also run custom courses for the ISFE. We've just delivered a bespoke critical appraisal workshop lasting two days for a group of restorative dentists at Guy's Hospital, London. As well as going through the material common to all healthcare professionals, the workshop included appraising real dental research papers. Bespoke courses are tailor-made to your exact requirements and offer excellent value for money for groups of professionals. Contact us today to organise your own special event!

Critical Appraisal Workshop takes place in Leeds

In 2011 we ran a Critical Appraisal Masterclass in Leeds. In 2012 we returned to Leeds with the longer Critical Appraisal Workshop which took place this weekend. The event took place at the centrally located Hilton Leeds hotel, next to Leeds train station. All the delegates were doctors from a range of specialties, including psychiatry, emergency medicine and paediatrics. Over two days the knowledge and skills of critical appraisal were taught to the delegates, with exercises using real clinical papers. The feedback was excellent. We will be bringing the workshop back to Leeds in March 2013.

Dublin hosts the Critical Appraisal Workshop

The Critical Appraisal Workshop took place in Dublin this weekend. The venue was the Radisson Blu hotel, a newly built deluxe hotel in the heart of Dublin city centre. Delegates were treated to a high quality service, with comfortable surroundings, delicious food and hot beverages. It's the first venue we've used where the meeting room itself is equipped with two coffee machines for the exclusive use of the delegates! The nightlife of Dublin provided the perfect wind down experience after the first day and everyone managed to make it to the second day of the workshop. We'll be visiting Dublin again on 15-16 September 2012. Reservations are now being accepted.

This workshop was also the first in which the new edition of The Doctor's Guide to Critical Appraisal was included in the delegate pack. Delegates included medical students, doctors and dentists, from a range of clinical specialties. The feedback comments at the end of the workshop were excellent and demonstrated how much benefit had been derived from attending the workshop. Thanks to everybody who attended and good luck to everyone taking exams! There is another workshop in Birmingham on 21-22 July 2012 - reserve your place now!
