Critical appraisal for pharmaceutical physicians in London
23rd Sept 2013 | Workshop
In association with The Critical Appraisal Company, the British Association of Pharmaceutical Physicians (BrAPP) ran a critical appraisal workshop at the Royal College of Pathologists, London.
Everything pharmaceutical physicians do in the pharmaceutical industry is based upon evidence. Pharmaceutical physicians are involved in the development of clinical trial programmes, in ensuring that research is conducted to the highest standards of GLP, GCP and GMP and in the review and interpretation of numerous studies conducted with medicines, devices and new treatment interventions to ensure ever improving standards of healthcare.
It is therefore of vital importance that pharmaceutical physicians are competent in the process of critical appraisal throughout their careers in pharmaceutical medicine as they review clinical trial protocols and plans, evaluate pharmacovigilance reports, prepare regulatory submissions to relevant authorities, prepare/advise on NICE submissions, advise colleagues and clinicians in the appropriate use of medicines and devices, approve promotional copy, shape stakeholder training programmes and advise on the review and preparation of commercial information including due diligence procedures.
The critical appraisal workshop lasted two days and also covered the material examined in the DipPharmMed exam. Good luck to all the exam candidates!
