Evidence-based Critical Appraisal medicine training

15th Oct 2013 |

It's not just clinicians who benefit from the training we offer. This week we gave a talk to a group of commissioners in Birmingham about how to evaluate clinical evidence.

Commissioners are in the unenviable position of having to decide which services to fund with a finite set of resources at their disposal. It is important that they are not swayed by evidence which is of poor quality or is misleading in some way.

We guided the group on how to take a step-by-step approach to appraising research papers. It was a short but hopefully useful session that showed that there's more to reading a research paper than scanning the abstract.
