Critical Appraisal for Medical Signatories – London
24th Jul 2026 | Bespoke Training
We delivered bespoke, interactive training for medical signatories in London, connecting critical appraisal and biostatistics with the evaluation of promotional claims in the context of the ABPI Code of Practice.
Using published research and practical claim-review exercises, participants examined whether efficacy, safety and comparative claims were substantiated by the evidence. Discussion addressed absolute versus relative effects, hazard versus risk, confidence intervals, multiplicity and the limitations of subgroup and post hoc analyses.
Particular attention was given to avoiding causal language for observational findings, interpreting non-significant results, distinguishing statistical from clinical significance, and recognising when comparisons between studies were unjustified. Participants considered when qualification could make a claim defensible and when the underlying evidence could not support it.
The emphasis was on accurate, balanced scientific communication and a clear rationale for approving, amending or rejecting medical claims.
